Voorstel (aangenomen)

Aan Mrs Dooley. Proposal for Windows on Broadway. New York, 1990.

Given: Two series

1) The series circle, square, triangle, rectangle, trapezium and parallellogram.

2) The series black, white, blue, orange, green and red.

The second series has been imagined and modeled after traffic events and signals:

black, white (accident, shock), blue rotating light (rescue),

yellow rotating light (clear the way),
green light (go), red light (stop).

The two series are different but also similar.

Both series are made out of oppositional pairs:

the shapes: circle/square, triangle/rectangle, trapezium/parallelogram

the colors: black/white, blue/orange, green/red.

Both series are primitives:

The first series consist of the most basic geometrical forms

and the second series (colored signals) of the most elementary symbols.

Both series are ideal (but come from the real world).

Both series are finite (therefore reversible).

Both series are progressive (unfold in a straight line).

The intersection of these two series gives a new series of figures

in which the two series merge into one.
