Airplane from outside
Silver gray image
that appears
in the aperture
of a bank of clouds.
That disappears
when the air
is the color of asphalt.
When the sun upon it shines
a diamond suspended in the water.
My eye catches it by its tail
where the letters and numbers are
Sometimes it moves from right to left
Sometimes from left to right
as in an ancient poem:
an object drifting by
is an augural sign.
Enveloped in a cloud
its sound announces it.
When far away
it whispers
as if near to me.
When near to me
it shrieks
as if miles away.
To execute its touch down
it makes a tangent to the earth
With great enthusiasm
it takes off again.
